Qatif- Just few weeks after Roxana Saberi was freed from Iranian prison, two American brothers are set to spend six years in Saudi prison, as US President is set to arrive to Riyadh, Tuesday, sources told SIA News.
The two brothers, Ammar and Nouh AbdulJabar, 29 and 27 consecutively, have been in prison since March 19, following their participation in silent vigil in the oil-rich city of AlAwamya, off the coast of the Persian Gulf.
The two brothers were arrested along few dozen men after a vigil was held that supported religious freedoms and rights of Shia Arabs in Saudi Arabia.
Few days prior to their arrest, leading cleric Sheikh Nimer Al-Nimer also from Awamya threatened cession from the Sunni-controlled kingdom over the Saudi government’s oppression of Shia, and the attacks on Shia worshipers in the holy city Madina by government religious militia and security forces.
The Saudi government bans Shia from any political role in addition to barring them from senior government jobs and security positions including in Shia areas. |
